Le track idéal pour détruire un dancefloor ? The ideal track to slaughter a dancefloor?
This is an absolute classic, and always gets a huge reaction whenever its dropped. I love the way the arrangement ebbs and flows but never looses its intensity. Those bells, those claps, and the lashing rides, a perfect piece of dance floor techno.
Le track idéal en after ? The ideal track for an after party?
When people think of Throbbing Gristle, arpeggios and disco sensibilities probably don’t spring to mind but sleezy and strangely beautiful, played at the right time this track has everyone turning their faces towards the sun, (I know, the sun, I told you it wasn’t a standard Throbbing Gristle track, if you like this try AB/7A as well)
Le track idéal pour commencer un set ? Best track to start a set?
Recently I’ve been opening with a new Covered in Sand track from his forthcoming Mira release; but as this isn’t out yet, and there are no clips online anywhere, I thought Russian Gold and Blood Diamonds from his first Mira EP would be a good replacement.
Le track idéal pour avoir le smile ? Best track to make people smile?
Le track idéal pour se délecter d’un 18 ans d’age dans un fauteuil au coin du feu ? Best track with an 18 year old wine sitting in a rocking chair next to the fireplace?
Something about Grouper’s music speaks directly to your soul. It sounds at once incredibly fragile and hugely powerful. Any of her albums would be perfect in this situation. I’ve chosen probably her best know track from the LP ‘The Man Who Died in His Boat’
Le track idéal pour replonger en enfance ? Best track to dive back into childhood?
Constantly battling with NIN at the top of my ‘favourite band of all time’ list I can never get enough of My Bloody Valentine. I totally idolised Kevin Shields (the past tense isn’t really needed there to be honest). This whole album takes me back to my teens, skipping class to make band practices and sitting outside in the sun smoking with my friends.
Le track idéal pour te réveiller ? Best track to wake you up?
This always makes me want to move. Those staccato guitars, the yelped vocals and the pulsing bass, if i’m listing to this in a room on my own ill be dancing around by the the end, no matter what time of day it is.
Le track idéal à n’importe quelle heure ? Best track at any time?
I’m a huge fan of Tropic of Cancer. When I first heard this I listened to it for almost an entire evening straight. I’ve got no idea what the tracks actually about, but theres such a strong sense of distant yearning here, music that manages to capture the bitter sweet and intangible this well is very special.
Le track idéal pour caractériser tes productions ? Best track to characterize your productions best?
Assuming you want me to pick one of my own tracks, its always the one you haven’t written yet, which is no help here. So I’ve chosen ‘Aokigorah’ from my Living With ghosts LP. As a piece of music its probably the track I’m happiest with.
Le track idéal pour résumer tes inspirations musicales ? Best track to summarize your musical inspirations?
Trent Reznor. I dont need to say anything else to be honest. For me NIN are at their best when they’re balancing beauty and noise. The dynamic switches and atonal passages in this track make it all the more powerful.
