Instant T Dr.Nojoke [Unoiki, Archipel, Klangscheiben]

Dr Nojoke, de son vrai nom Frank Bogdanowitz est né et a grandi à Berlin, où il a commencé à jouer de la guitare à 16 ans. Il s’est investi dans plusieurs groupes dans différents styles comme le punk, le rock alternatif, la wave, la dub… Depuis 2005 il développe son concept de « Clikno », une forme libre de techno se basant sur des field recordings, oscillant entre lo-tech/hi-tech et des sons acoustiques/électroniques, une forme libre qui reflète le monde réel dans un habit électronique et dansable. Durant ses performances live, il surprend en créant des sons avec des objets inhabituels comme des bouteilles en plastique, des jouets musicaux, des souvenirs ou une radio.

Entre albums, eps, remixs et contributions, on dénombre plus de 100 sorties à son actif, sur des labels comme Archipel, Pluie Noir, Klangscheiben, Unoiki, Minim.all et encore bien d’autres…et tout dernièrement un vinyle sur le label Nook, le four-track Regenerate EP. Dr Nojoke ne plaisante jamais et il ne s’arrête pas là. Depuis 2010 il dirige le label et collectif interdisciplinaire Unoiki. La production est orientée musique expérimentale, avec un design graphique remarquable et un packaging fait main. Voilà ce qu’on appelle de l’Artwork.

En plus de ça, il a collaboré avec J-Lab sous le nom Paralelo, avec la danseuse danoise Christine Borch pour le projet de danse audiovisuelle Horor Vacui et a écrit beaucoup de partitions pour des films ou du théâtre. Actuellement il monte « The Pool Berlin« , un collectif berlinois de producteurs, DJs et fans de minimal, de techno expérimentale et d’ambiant. En tant que membre de The Pool, il a commencé The Kitchen – un évènement plus intime avec des artistes internationaux (Ingemar Stalholm, Elysée, Yes Ma’am, David Last, John Templeton, The Automatic Message, mod2 …) en visite à Berlin. PLO (Pool Laptop Orchestra) est une autre activité de The Pool. PLO est une formation ouverte pouvant aller jusqu’à 6 participants pour une longue nuit d’improvisations. La prochaine performance publique aura lieu le 21 mars au Brunnen 70 à Berlin.

Cette année il sortira un nouvel album intitulé Falling & Walking sur un label berlinois renommé, puis il va lancer son propre label vinyle Clikno en dévoilant sa vision unique de la dance music avant-gardiste et contemporaine puis – comme 2015 marque les 10 ans de Clikno – il offrira des prestations en reprenant la musique de la décennie passée sous le titre The 10th Cliknoversary Showdown.

I cannot say what I like the most and what is the best and find it is not important, too.
So all my answers are more or less intuitive, what come across my mind.

My first choice would be the Summertime Blues version from that great 80ies band, but the video-clip for their Money version is too good.

The last two questions are difficult to answer and also quite similar.
I even cannot answer both questions.

Possibly the best deep minimal techno record ever.

Dr Nojoke, real name Frank Bogdanowitz, born and raised up in Berlin, started playing guitar at the age of 16. He joined several bands of different styles like punk, alternative rock, wave, dub… Since 2005 he developes his concept of « Clikno », a freeform techno based on field recordings – oscillating between lo-tech/hi-tech and acoustic/electronic sounds, reflecting the real world in an electronic, danceable sound-dress. In his live performances he surprises creating sounds with unusual objects like plastic bottles, toy instruments, souvenirs and a radio.

He put our more than 100 Albums, EPs, remixes and contributions on labels such as Archipel, Pluie Noir, Klangscheiben, Unoiki, Minim.all and so on …. lately the four-track Regenerate EP on vinyl on the Nook label. Dr.Nojoke is never joking and he even doesn’t stop here. This year he will put out a new album entitled Falling & Walking on a renowned Berlin-based label, then he will start his own vinyl label Clikno unfolding his unique vision of contemporary and forward-thinking dance music and – as 2015 marks the tenth anniversary of Clikno – he offers performances with music from the past decade under the title The 10th Cliknoversary Showdown.
