Instant T by Lusine [Ghostly International]

Originaire du Texas, Jeff McIlwain aka Lusine (L’usine, Lusine Icl) a commencé la composition dans les années 90, après avoir suivi un enseignement de violonniste. Il s’est installé à Seattle en 2002. Après un premier album 3 ans plus tôt sur Isophlux, il se retrouve rapidement sur un autre label américain qui traversait déjà les murs, Ghosthly International. C’est d’ailleurs sur ce label que la majorité de ses productions est publiée, comme son dernier album paru fin 2013, « The waiting Room » ou son dernier EP « Arterial » sorti l’année passée. L’usine c’est aussi une vingtaine de EP sur Mute, !K7, Kompakt…

Son style singulier oscille entre douces mélodies, beats abstraits, ambiances vaporeuses faites à la guitare ou au violoncelle, avec des vocales, le tout, trituré, déstructuré. Difficilement classable dans un seul genre, il faut piocher entre Electronica, IDM (Intelligent Dance Music), Ambiant, PsycheRock-électronique… Au travers de sa musique, il sait tout simplement faire vibrer les cordes sensibles. Un EP de remixes de « Arterial » est prévu pour bientôt sur Ghostly. Il fera un mix pour la « Midnight Sessions » de KEXP Radio en Avril puis se produira au Red Rocks dans le Colorado avec Tipper le 16 Mai. L’usine a du travail, il se penche actuellement sur un nouvel album.

Je ne pense pas qu’un seul de mes morceaux « détruise » un dancefloor, mais celui-ci devrait aller.

Le track idéal en after ? Best track for an after party?

Ce morceau est du genre contemplatif, mais je pense que ça marcherait pour une situation d’after-party type.

Mon ami Dave a fait ce remix de Two Dots. Ca a été un morceau d’ouverture de set très populaire pendant un bon moment.

C’est probablement un exemple décent de là où je me trouve maintenant, pour ce qui est de la production.

Dans celui-ci, beaucoup d’inspiration minimaliste de quelques artistes différents.

After a first album on Isophlux 3 years earlier, he has quicly settled down on another american label which was passing through the walls, Ghostly International. It is, moreover, this label who published the major part of his productions, like his last album from 2013 « The Waiting Room » or his last Ep « Arterial » released last year. L’usine, it is too about 20 Eps on Mute, !K7, Kompakt…

His singular style oscillates between sweet melodies, abstract beats, vaporous ambiances made with a guitar or a cello, with vocals, the all destructured. Hard to classify in only one genre, it is needed to choose among Electronica, IDM, Ambiant, PsycheRock-electronic… Through his music, he simply knows how to make viberate the heartstrings.

An ep of various artists remixes of « Arterial » is coming out on Ghostly soon. Lusine has some work, he is actually preparing a new album. In the coming months, he will be playing at Red Rocks in Colorado with Tipper on May 16th and he will be doing a mix for KEXP Radio’s Midnight Sessions in April.

I don’t think any of my tracks « slaughter » a dancefloor, but this one should work.

This track is kind of contemplative, but I think it would work for an after party type situation.

My friend Dave did this remix of Two Dots. It was a very popular set opener for a while.
