IS 064 – Grifin’ [Minibar, Silicate]

C’est notre baron parisien Boris Hervot Dlutowski que l’on connaît plus sous le nom de Grifin’ à qui on a confié la réalisation de notre dernier podcast. Et oui, comme vous l’aurez peut être remarqué, on peut dire qu’en ce moment, ses beats et ceux de ses compères résonnent souvent par ici et dans notre cave, lieu un poil underground rempli de vinyles ou l’on aime passer pas mal de temps à s’adonner aux joies du mix…

Chose peu commune, c’est par le hip hop que Boris s’est mis à la production. Il est ensuite passé par l’IDM le click’n cut et l’ambiant pour arriver à la micro-house et c’est en 2007 qu’il fonde en compagnie de Voiski et Thomas Bethmont le label Silicate. Depuis il a fait pas mal de collaborations avec d’autres artistes, comme Tilman et Pit Spector dernièrement sur Minibar avec leur projet Cellule Eat.

Electrisant l’atmosphère dès les premières notes, Grifin’ amène une ambiance très robotique, mécanique, en complexité, et ça, forcément on apprécie !

Développant une fabuleuse construction, il nous amène dans des horizons sonores infinies, allant de fins synthés planants, à de petites percussions qu’on perçoit comme sifflant au vent, ou encore un trip psychédélique accompagné d’un vocal efficace…

Efficace, serait le mot d’ordre ; samples à gogo ravageur, entrecoupé de kicks légers et drums gourmands, pas de répit, même les lignes de basselines nous font tourner la tête et remuer les pieds au rythme des vocaux clubs.

L’évolution est flagrante, on passe de cette richesse complexe, à un son plus old school, plus house, plus deep, juste le temps d’une pause qui remélange les genres, les sons, les envies tout en gardant une certaine finesse… la finesse d’un genre qu’il maîtrise si bien.

You could easily notice that his beats and those from his colleagues were resonating pretty often in our basement ( bit of an underground place filled with vinyls where we like to hang out and mix.. )

Funny thing is that Boris started producing Hip Hop, before turning to IDM, click’n’cut, ambiant and finally micro-house when he started label Silicate in 2007 with his mates Voiski and Thomas Bethmont. Since then, he collaborated with many other artists, like Tilman and Pit Spector on label Minibar’s latest project Cellule Eat.

Electrifying the place from the first notes, Grifin’ brings in a very robotic, mechanic and complex atmosphere, we enjoy this type of stuff for sure.

Developping a fabulous construction, he brings us towards infinite soundscapes, from thin floating synths to the tiniest drumbeats or even a psychedelic trip through crazy vocals.

Efficient is the word ; crazy samples everywhere, cut with light kicks and hungry drums, no rest, even the baselines turn our heads over and move our feet with no particular effort.

The evolution is very noticeable: coming from this complex form of sound to a more old schoolish and deeper house, just needing some break moment to mix again those different types, needs, keeping the finesse, finesse of a genre that Grifin’ masters so well.
